Do you recognize this?

You've tried everything — and your shoulder is still stuck.

Frozen shoulder can feel confusing and frustrating because it often starts gradually, then begins to affect almost everything you do. You may be struggling to reach overhead, put on a jacket, fasten a bra, reach behind your back, sleep on the affected side, or move your arm without sharp pain or stiffness.

Many patients come to us after months of physiotherapy, injections, home exercises, or being told the condition will eventually improve on its own. Sometimes that is true. Sometimes the shoulder remains restricted and a more focused assessment is needed.

What is frozen shoulder?

Adhesive capsulitis — when the shoulder capsule tightens.

Frozen shoulder, also called adhesive capsulitis, occurs when the shoulder capsule becomes thick, tight, inflamed, and less flexible. The result is a pattern of pain and restricted movement that affects both active motion — what you can move yourself — and passive motion — what someone else can move for you.

Because frozen shoulder changes over time, the most appropriate treatment depends on your stage, how long symptoms have been present, your medical history, and what you have already tried.

Find out which stage you may be in
01Stage 1
Freezing

Pain gradually increases, range of motion shrinks.

02Stage 2
Frozen

Pain may settle but stiffness remains significant.

03Stage 3
Thawing

Motion slowly returns; some residual stiffness common.

04Next step
Assessment

Stage cannot be confirmed without specialist review.

Treatment options

No single treatment is right for every patient.

Your options may include structured physiotherapy, corticosteroid injection, hydrodilatation, manipulation under anesthesia, arthroscopic capsular release, or Advanced Capsular Mobilization (ACM). ACM is the primary specialist treatment option we promote — but it is only appropriate after careful assessment confirms suitability.

Information on this site is educational and is not a substitute for individual medical advice. Individual results vary. A specialist assessment is required before determining suitability for any treatment.

Specialist-led pathway

Frozen shoulder is often treated generically. It shouldn't be.

Adhesive capsulitis has a distinct pattern, predictable stages, and treatment decisions that should be made carefully. Advanced Capsular Mobilization (ACM) is designed for appropriate candidates whose capsular restriction remains significant despite conservative care. A specialist-led pathway helps confirm diagnosis, identify stage, review prior treatment, and determine whether ACM or another option is the safest next step.

Built around proper assessment

Your treatment plan should follow a clinical evaluation — not a one-size-fits-all promise.

Careful candidate selection

ACM suitability is reviewed through physician-led evaluation, not a sales pitch.

Transparent risks and benefits

We discuss potential risks, benefits, and alternatives before any treatment is recommended.

Recovery planning that lasts

Follow-up planning helps protect the motion gained through treatment.
